mailpoet http requests overloading cpu resources

Hi Mailpoets,
I have traffic spikes to my websites which are unfortunately, not organic/legitimate.
My web host is helping me to track down the problem. They see “mailpoet hitting the limit consistently”.The cpanel resource usage http query snapshots kick up something like this a lot:

the cron produce on some of my sites (not all) massive serverload all the time
