mail() not working (6 posts)

    Don't think this is WordPress's issue, but I haven't used my WP in a while and it seems the last password I had marked down is not working anymore for some reason. Anyway, I'm trying to use the "forgot my password" funciton, and I keep getting this error:

    The e-mail could not be sent.
    Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function...

    Is there some way to fix this, either in WP or otherwise? I'd like to gain access to my blog again. :)

    EDIT: I understand that is that Mailer plug in, but since I can't access WP to adjust anything or install plugins, I can't do that.

    Hah, thanks for the help. I found a solution that worked. I appreciate the assistance. Although I'm still confused by the mail() issue. Is that due to some upgrade in PHP?

    Contact your hosting provider and ask them if they have disabled the mail() function. It is a server-based function, not a WordPress-based function.

    For me, I get the host may have disabled mail() function.
    What I did is go into php.ini and set the smtp server to a functional mail server. i.e. smtp.my-domain-name.com Email retrieval and other mail related function started working after. If you dont run your own mail server, you can try to use your ISP's smtp mail server. However, your isp may not allow you to relay mail through their mail server. In that case, you are out of luck unless you run your own mail server.
