    @numeeja

It means go to that address in firefox (or safari etc) The port will be a number as configured in MAMP.

I prefer XAMPP, but a lot of people use MAMP so I’m sure its fine.

I got it to kinda work with port # 8888, but now it says, “We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the wordpress database.

    * Are you sure it exists?
    * Does the user root have permission to use the wordpress database?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?”

not sure what to try next,,

Try using the phpMyAdmin module in the MAMP. phpMyAdmin solved my database install issue with FreeBSD. Mine works fine now.

    I use port 8889.

(Old but) good tutorial on getting MAMP up and running here.

There’s another good tutorial that came out fairly recently here. Lots of good pictures to step you through. Hopefully it will help you troubleshoot!

    Hallo,

I have also a problem hier. When I put the adress (port 8888) I get a message:

The virtual host was set up successfully.

If you can see this page, your new virtual host was set up successfully. Now, web contents can be added and this placeholder page1 should be replaced or deleted.

    Server name: localhost
    Document-Root: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs

    1 Files: index.php and MAMP-PRO-Logo.gif

but I don’t know where should I put then the information thats on the website:

    database name: wordpress
    database host/server: localhost
    database user: root
    database password: root

where’s the “famous” 5 min install?
