• Thanks again for the amazing free theme and support.

I checked what Google thinks of the speed of my site using Pagespeed Insights:

    https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights

My site got a score of 64/100 (poor) for mobile and 73/100 (needs work) for desktop. Various optimisations are suggested. Anyone can run this test for any other site.

Have you got any suggestions as to how I can improve these scores?

    Hey @mjrouse,

while I rarely encounter websites which are able to get a score above 70 in mobile and 80 in desktop with this tool (Google is being quite picky here, which is a logical behaviour on their side) – there are some thing which can be improved rather easily.

Optimize images: I highly recommend installing the WP Smush free plugin, it will automatically reduce the size of images to minimum, without losing in quality.

Minify CSS & Minify JavaScript: this is more of a recommendation rather than a necessity, you can also achieve this with a plugin, such as Merge + Minify + Refresh. The benefit of using a plugin for this purpose is that it will go through all files, not only the theme but also other active plugins.

Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content: Bento is loading scripts and stylesheets in accordance with the best practices for WP theme development, but we’ll see how we can further improve this in the next releases.

Overall, your website is in good shape – the front page is smaller than 1 Mb and uses 22 queries to load, which is a very decent number.

    Hi Andrii

Thanks very much. I installed Smush and “Fast Velocity Minify”, and got the scores up to 73 and 80.

    Cheers
    Mark
