• Hi,

I outsourced the development of a custom theme for WordPress and performed the installation myself. The theme uses a gallery feature were you click a thumbnail in the sidebar and a larger image appears on the post.

Everything appears to work correctly, just that I can’t figure out were in the admin section I have to add the pictures to each post for the gallery to work. The developer added a sample and disappeared! Now I need to figure this out.

You can see below the sample he added.

    Sample

When I try to edit that post and click on the Add Media button I see a gallery option above, but I can’t edit it. If I try to add pictures to a new post I can’t see the gallery option. Does that mean he used a gallery plugin he didn’t tell me about?

I created a user that anyone that can help can use to login.

    Admin User: help Password: WordPress

Thanks! I have a deadline for tommorow!

    Ed

  • Actually, the user set up is useless because it only allows us to View the Posts (rightly so, who knows what craziness others will do to your site).

    1) I am surprised that the developer would leave you with this more advanced theme without any instructions.
    2) I can see that you have different post templates so most probably you’re using a plugin.
    3) The theme is probably using the excerpt custom field to add thumbnail images on the sidebar of your post template and jquery to change images in your post on click of any of the thumbnail images uploaded.
    4) The Theme has four main pages using different page templates

    Hy mercime,

    1. Yep, no instructions, no directions on which plugin to download, amazing!

    3. That’s what I am thinking but the sample posts that they added don’t have a custom field. Might be that I don’t have the plugin.

You can log as ‘admin’ with password ‘[password removed]’

    Thanks,

    E.

Vivirenet: please change your password now. anyone could wreak havoc to your installation now. i did not mean for you to post username and password of admin in this forum. The functions.php has the codes for calling up different images on the right column for that post, among other functions.

It seems the only thing you have to do is create a post, upload images on that same page before saving the post, set your gallery options for the images you upload, save your post, and voila. The template tags that are being used will find those images.

What parkstreet said. You upload images to your post in Posts > Add New, do not click “Insert to Post” but click on “Save” in the Media Upload popup. In order for this to work, you must also choose/click on “Blog Studies” category which you will see on the right side of your Add New Posts panel because the “Blog” category does not have the same call for images on the right column.

Thanks @mercime, I did miss a few steps in there. I have to say thought, that whoever the develop is, did a pretty awesome job with using WordPress functions that way. That is pretty sweet.
