Earlier this evening I realised that I had been hacked. My site and all data appear fine, the hacker had just put a looping music track and photo on the main page.

I’ve followed all the steps dealing with hacking from checking files, changing all my passwords to running malware and virus checks etc.

I’ve also had my webspace provider roll back the site to a time before the hacker got in.

However what I have noticed is that for some reason my ‘plugins’ menu has disappeared, the ‘updates’ button under dashboard menu has also gone though it is visible on both my other admin panels for other sites that haven’t been hacked.

Has the hacker done this? It looks like he has also changed my log in name from ‘admin’ to ‘salam’ (though obviously i’ve changed the password).

Will I need to do a complete reinstall to get these menus back? Or is there another way around this?

Note to all, thanks to everyone who poked their heads in even if you couldn’t help :)!

Turns out the hacker must have deleted something out of my database. Had my provider role back the database and all is fixed thank goodness!

Cannot give vidahost enough credit for this, poor guy has been back and forth with me for three hours helping me fix everything though I know not all of you are lucky enough to have customer support to turn to so I thought i’d update this with my solution for you so you can sort it yourselves if you ever have this problem!
