I can’t change it via the admin panel cos I can’t log in.

I tried to change it via phpmyadmin and did what it told me to do but I still can’t log in.

I don’t know how to use MySQL and the instructions to do it via FTP confuses me, I don’t know how to do it.

I’m sorry but there’s nothing we can do here for you. wordpress.org has no connection to your self-hosted site. If you cannot manage this yourself, you may want to consider hiring someone.

is it not possible someone can talk me through it step by step?

Sorry – that’s not possible. This is a free forum staffed by unpaid volunteers. We cannot offer onsite support. Try hiring someone.

If you are confident to work in phpmyadmin, do not forget to select MD5 on the database if you’re using the MD5 hash.

That could cause trouble for you. Try that again if you missed it.

I did select the MD5 button but it still didn’t work

I’ve just tried to do it via emergency password script. I got the script up, entered the username and entered a new password.

then i go to login, i enter the username and new password i get a ‘404 not found’ page come up. 🙁

i used the emergency password reset script

Where did you put the file, did you follow the instructions carefully?

Is it in the same directory as the wp-config.php file?

yes, i dragged it into my public html folder which is the same folder that contains the wp-config file.

I got this page up: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v600/mscrafty/ScreenShot2013-08-13at235937.png

i got an email with the new password.

    I entered a new password.

then went back to log in using ‘admin’ as username and entered the new password, and i get the ‘404 not found’ page.

i even tried logging in by copying and pasting the new password from the email but it still doesn’t work.

Ok, first thing. You have most probably succeeded in changing the password so go and delete the emeregency.php file. Do that now.

Second, attempt to login using this

    i’ve deleted the emergency.php file

I tried to log in and still get the ‘404 not found’ page.

i tried yourlinkhere/wp-admin/index.php and I still get the ‘404 not found’ page.

I keep getting this page: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v600/mscrafty/ScreenShot2013-08-14at002606.png

it says the wp-login.php is not found on this server. so, I thought it was missing, I went to my FTP to upload another wp-login.php file, tried to log in again and I still get the ‘404 not found page’. 🙁

Ok see, you do not have the WordPress installation on a separate /wordpress folder. You said it yourself:

yes, i dragged it into my public html folder which is the same folder that contains the wp-config file.

Your best bet is to try directly:

that’s what I have been doing, trying directly from my site

i enter my new password then click log in and the the page changes to ‘404 not found’.

I don’t get it cos i’ve done what I’ve been told.
