Support » Fixing WordPress » lost password – not recognizing any username

  • We’ve tried sending a password recovery email to any user that was ever connected to our wp site (blog.eatwith.com). It gives us the same error message:
“The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function.”
We have no knowledge regarding the right email or password. What can we do?

    Thank you,
    Herut Ishlach

  • If your hosts have indeed disabled the mail() function, you could try bypassing it yourself by using one of the several available SMTP plugins. That way you can send your mail through your own email account:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=smtp

The reason can be complicated. Instead of troubleshooting, you may try to use plugin that config wp_mail() function to use SMTP instead of mail() function.

I personally haven’t had same problem as yours, can’t recommend one for you. But do a plugin search in WordPress.org for “mail SMTP”, choose the right one that works for you following your guideline.
