i was doing so well. I am using The Morning After and love it. However, I changed some bit of code, and now I lost my home page. I am getting a 404 error.

Can someone please help me get it back?? there seems to be no help over on TMA.

Try re-installing a fresh copy of the theme. Next time you want to make a change to the theme code, make a copy of the file you want to amend first. That way, if everything goes pear-shaped, you can re-upload a copy of the original.

I did u/l the original, but no luck. In fact, I re-installed the entire theme, just to be sure.

You just changed the theme code? A fresh upload should have worked. Maybe some plugin went crazy.

    Things to try:

1 – Switch to Default theme, to see if the problem persists.
2 – Deactivate plugins and reactivate one by one.

if that doesn’t work, then try to
    3 – Reset permalinks

reupload the unedited theme files, specifically home.php

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, the problem is not unique to the theme. The problem still exists if i change the theme.

What on earth did I do?

When you changed to the Default theme and disabled the plugins, did things work?

    nope. Got a 404.

What file did you edit just before this happened? If a fresh theme reinstall didn’t work, then it sounds like you edited one of the WP core files.

Having a similar problem. The first two pages of posts worked fine, but then pages 3 and 4 got a 404 error.

I switched to default and it was working. So I switched back to the theme I was using (Arthemia free) and started messing around to see if I could find the problem.

Resetting the permalinks didn’t help. Deactivating plugins didn’t help. When I went into Settings>Reading and changed the number of posts to show on the page – it fixed it. If I put 10 as the number of posts I want to see, I get the 404 error. If I put 5 or 8 or whatever else, I don’t. The theme now only shows 5 posts per page, no matter what number I put in there, but at least the pages are no longer giving 404 errors.

Any thoughts on why this could be happening? Seems to have just started up randomly. I didn’t make any changes to the theme recently.

I take it back – it has to be 5, or the last page is lost.

@digigirl: If the problem disappeared when you switched to the default theme, then it’s a theme-related issue. If you’ve edited any of the Arthemia files, you need to grab a fresh copy of the theme and re-upload it.

I was in the process of remodeling my blog… in the process of deleting unwanted pages… I deleted the home page…

now when someone comes to http://www.——.com/blog you get a 404 error message…. I know I did wrong in deleting that page… how do i fix it?

    Here’s what I already tried…

I created a new page called home… but then I had 2 home tabs. The landing page www. blahblahblah.com still gives an error code.

I then tried taking “home” out of the title for the new page… that made the new home button disappear… but the first home button still takes you to the error page.
