lost FTP permissions to wordpress directory

  • I’ve got a possibly complicated problem so let me start from the beginning.

I’ve got worpress installed at shekky.org/jason/wordpress/. This is set up as the subdomain jason.shekky.org/. I uploaded all the files to the wordpress directory, created the database, and tried to access /wp-admin/install.php, and it barfed. It said that wp-db.php didn’t exist. I checked and it did so I tried the install.php again and this time I got a 404.

So I tried to check on the existence of install.php via FTP but I get a Permission Denied error when trying to open any of the subdirectories of the wordpress directory.

The permissions on the directories in question are “drw-rw-rw-” which I take to mean I have read/write access, which means I should be able to see them, correct?

My webhost rejected my support request because I’m using “third party software.” Is this actually an issue with wordpress or is it something else?

It’s not an issue with WordPress. It’s definitely at least a problem with permissions, as shekky.org/jason/ is blocked. That was kinda a stupid answer from your host.

Permissions on the /jason/ directory should be 755. I know some hosts have the inital setup to be different. read/write is fine, but it needs to execute. 🙂 (execute means run)
