 * I tried to set up a child theme so I could do some customization on my site (
which has been perfectly stable for the month-plus since I built it) but when
I activated it, suddenly all the formatting was gone. Not knowing what was happening,
I reactivated the theme I’d been using…but when I did so there wasn’t any formatting
   STILL.
 * The theme I use is unsupported here, so I tried activating twenty twelve, just
to troubleshoot. Same issue. No formatting. My page now begins with */ and then
proceeds with all the unformatted content, no matter what theme I choose.
 * Here’s what I did today:
 * 1) I used my FTP client to add a directory for a child theme.
    2) I added a style.
css file to the child theme directory. 3) I saw my theme but it was broken and
missing a template. 4) I uploaded template.css to the child theme directory.
   5) I realized it was supposed to be the php file, so did the silly simple thing
and simply resaved my local css file as a php and replaced it in the child theme
directory. 6) The child theme was available to me, so I activated it. 7) I viewed
the site and the formatting was gone. 8) While troubleshooting, I reactivated
my original theme, but the formatting was still gone.
 * What I didn’t do was modify any files in any directories other than the new child
theme, with one exception. I overwrote the style.css file in my main theme, just
in case it had somehow become corrupted. I’ve triple checked and the correct
   file is up there.

 * Can you switch to the default Twenty Twelve theme with all plugins deactivated?

 * Ok, did that and deactivating the plugins restored formatting. I’m going to experiment
with my main theme and activate the plugins one at a time…

 * …and there’s my answer. The NextGEN Gallery by Photocrati plug in is the culprit.
All was perfect till I activated it and then it fouled again. I deactivated it
   and poof, all better.
 * Thank you so much for the help.
