 * Our website was being hosted by our former web developers who went bust. They
   pulled us off their servers yesterday so our site went down. They have provided
   us with our website files which I have now uploaded to a new host.
 * Problem is that the files are taken from a date in May 2018, not the current
   date, so our current website and, more importantly, our wp-admin which contains
   our e-commerce data such as current customer orders is missing!
 * Can anyone assist us in retrieving this please?
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Flost-data-10%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * If they didn’t give you a current dump of the database, that data is gone. Did
   they give you a database dump as part of the file package?

 * Yes – they provided us with two folders of info, one of which was the database,
   which I didn’t realise was at May 18 so I went ahead and uploaded.
 * Although we own and update the wp-admin site, and it sits on our servers, doesn’t
   it get captured periodically by wordpress (by way of updates for example) which
   we could revert to?
 * Thanks for your reply!

 * Unless you (or your former host) had set up backups, no. WP itself does not do
   that.
 * Going forward, you may want to use a plugin like “backwpup” to do daily database
   backup and weekly “everything” backup and use it’s ability to move the backups
   office to Dropbox to separate the backups from the hosting. Or, since this now
   sits on your servers, use cron to set up a daily mysqldump of the database and
   rsync of the files for a full daily backup.

 * OK. A harsh lesson to be learned here I think!
 * Thanks for your replies.
