# Lost Comments

 * I updated to a new version of WordPress yesterday and did not back up. My bad.
   Now my old comments don’t show. Can anyone tell me where within the WordPress
   files (I host WordPress on my own site) I might find the old comments?

 * you’ll have to look in the database. But if they’re not showing up in the Dashboard
   > Comments, then they’re probably gone. The only way to recover would be a backup
   file.
