• Earlier in the year I totaly re-did my web site. This means that all the wordpress stuff and the link from my web site to the blog was not in the new site. I would like to find it again but am not sure how. I guess I first have to download and install the wordpress files onto the new site. Not sure what to do next. do I have to start over or once I do that will I be able to get to my old dashboard and blog? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Do you have a backup copy of your old database?

I have my old web site backed up and in it is a file that is titled “blog” it has the word press stuff in it. It appears to be version 3.0.1 Is this stuff still good and what would I do with it?

No – this has to be a database backup. It should have an .sql extension.

It seems i’m out of luck on that account. This would seem to me that I have to load the latest verion onto my site. I’m just having some difficulty. The easy 5 minutes set up on wp isn’t so easy. I can’t follow the directions. All I’ve done so far is to download the wp folder to my desk top. I don’t know what to do with it and my web site hosting comapany has not beeb much help. I’m not real familiar with the web lingo. I use Expresion web as an editor and a template for the site, so as you can see, I’m an amature. Any other suggestions?

Does your host offer a 1-click installer?

I got my hosting company to install everything. Now here is my big question. The blog opens up to a very generic page. Does this mean all my blog stuff I had before I redid my web site is lost? I’m a home inspector and the theme opened to all the components fo a house flying togehter to form a house. Is that lost or is there a way to retrieve it?

Oh, one more thing, isn’t there something called a dashboard? If so, how do I get to that. Thanks so much for you help so far. Your expertise are appreciated.

Unless you have a database backup, yes.
