[resolved] Looking for theme similar in looks to what i have (10 posts)

*sigh* You can't get help for K2 stuff here, and you can't get help for K2 stuff at the K2 site, so what I'm looking for is a theme that is similar in looks to how I have K2 styled now. I can change colors and whatnot, not worried about that.

Mainly I want a two column design, menu on the right, no top menus, rotating header images, and a very easily edited sidebar.

Please have a look at my site to see what I have now. I've scoured the themes listed everywhere I can find, and quite simply, none of them do it for me.

I'm running WP 2.0.7, and the following plug-ins:

    Akismet 1.8.1, Compact Monthly Archive 1.00, Hello Dolly 1.5, Time Capsule 1.0.2, WordPress Database Backup 1.8, & Zap_Recent_Commented 1.0.

Also, I would like to create a category cloud (variably sized categories based on number of posts to them) but none of the plug-ins that do that seem to work with K2, hence wanting to get away from it now.

Any suggestions? I've tried literally dozens of themes.

    Have you tried these?

http://themes.wordpress.net/ <-- New themes uploaded there daily

If you're okay with editing the theme a little to suit your needs, there are plenty to choose from that fulfill what you're asking for.

themes.wordpress.net I have been scouring for a few weeks almost daily- you don't want to know how many themes I have uploaded on my blog now that I have cycled through, tweaked a bit, and just decided I didn't like enough to spend <i>that</i> much time editing.

    I'm checking out themebot.com now.

The one thing I noticed on several of the themes I almost liked was a lot of them nest the child categories under the parents- I don't like that. Or they implement links in order of creation of the category, instead of by alphabetical (name).

I know, small things. But they drive me insane!

Like which ones support the rotating header? I haven't found one yet that does that. :(

It's not much to make the categories list alphabetically, usually just a little tweak in the sidebar.php page, or wherever the sidebar code is.

I've never used child categories or anything, so that I couldn't help with. Again, it's probably a minor tweak, but I'm not sure.

That's what I was thinking but I am not overly familiar with CSS.

Do you happen to know a good online resource, kind of like a CSS bible, so I can look up various attributes and whatnot?

And several hours and several major changes later, we have a winner!

Sorry not to get back to this sooner - it looks very nice! :)

Did you find the css help you needed?

No worries- most of the changes were easy enough to implement- just time consuming.

And nope, still looking for a good CSS resource. One day I'll break down and just buy a book... lol.

Well, there is a CSS for Dummies book out there, heh.

Also, a quick search turns up the following results, none of which I have tried myself:

hehe I know... if I come across some extra money I'm just buying a CSS bible. I have books on just about every program I use (Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver) and some on things I don't use (Flash, that book on PHP that's still over my head...) but I need bibles for HTML and CSS even if just for quick refference.

I think I've checked a few of those sites, but will check again. Thanks. :)

And now I'm off to the gym... :-/
