• I am not sure if this is the right forum – please direct me to it if this is not the right one.

I am looking for a plugin that will allow a small number of users (just mostly friends and family) to get updates from my blog. Whenever I post a new post on my blog, I need the plugin to automatically copy that post and send it via email to the people on the list. It would be a plus to let the subscribers manage the details also, like whether they get a full copy of the post, or just an alert, etc.

At this time I have no money at all, so I would be looking for something free. (And this is not a new blog, but one I already have up and running, hosted at a 3rd party provider.)

I look forward to finding out if such a plugin exists, and learning how I can keep family and friends updated on my blog via email without them even having to go to the site.

    Thanks.

  • Have you considered using Feedburner along with a suitable plugin?

What does feedburner do? I do know that my blog already has an RSS feed which works with reader.google.com but not sure how I leverage that into an email blast to family and friends – especially one that sends automatically when I create blog posts?

Feedburner (which is another Google product) allows people to subscribe to your blog via email. Copies of posts can be automatically emailed to all of your Feedburner subscribers.

Does it make them have to sign up individually? Because if my family could do that, they would be checking my blog. Many of my family’s capability and interest stops at getting email, so I have to do all the configuration on my side of things.

So I am assuming that the feedburner solution would be a “their side” solution instead of a “my side” one?

    Yes.

Correct. Another option would to to try installing Jetpack. That has an email subscription module that you could use to sign up your family.

I just tried out Jetpack, and it seems to work awesomely so far. Thanks!

    No problem 🙂
