• I am trying to find a plugin or combination of plugins that can help me achieve the following:

    1. import holidays from ical calendars (preferrably not as posts)
    2. create events within categories
    3. manage subscriptions of these events
    4. maintain a mailing list to which new users can opt-in on available categories (so I can invite them for new events in the same category)
    5. Some way to easily notify users of new events (preferrably only of their specific categories of interest). For example:
    1. send mails through mailing list with relevant posts (in selected categories) in it to each user OR:
    2. notify registered users (weekly?) of new events in their selected categories

I tried quite a few plugins, best choices so far seem:

    1. RSVPmaker (+ChimpBlast) seems to be able to do almost everything except feature 1): importing other calendars.
    2. On the other hand I found CallPress to import other calendars the way I want, while also 2) and 3) are taken care of. But then a way to notify users of new events…

Does anybody have a good suggestion?

I found RSVPmaker not so configurable as I had wanted.

For now I settled displaying a general calendar with CalPress Calendar and I handle events with Quick Event Manager.
The latter has quite some configuration options and a beautiful widget.
The only drawback for now is that I don’t know how to integrate it with a mailing list (people can subscribe for an event, but their information is only in the event, no option to include this data in a general mailing list).

    I’m still open to suggestions!

On another note, Quick Event Manager does have a reporting page which can be exported to csv-file (this can be your input for a mailing list).
On top of that I found that there is an extensions plugin available that is still in testing. As long as it is in testing it is free: https://quick-plugins.com/quick-event-manager/quick-event-manager-extensions/

QEM Extensions gives you several other report formats including the possibility of mailing all participants of certain events directly from WordPress.

Functionality to sign up for a mailinglist is not included however, so still not ideal.
