Looking for open source theme that works and is updated frequently

I’m tired of trying themes that work as reliably as the weather…And I don’t want or like paid themes because service is not as good as open source community.

Is there a theme out there that is versatile than I can re-use on multiple projects?

I can handle changing the CSS manually, but a nice backend GUI would be nice also. The theme needs to be completely free, no paid version…

In my experience, paid is NOT better. Open source rocks;)
