Looking for a Recent Post Plugin (4 posts)

    (I'm actually using 2.92, but the version dropdown here doesn't list that as an option).

    I'm looking for a plugin that will change the way the "Recent Posts" widget works. For the most part I'm content with the built in plugin, except for one thing.

    I'd like for the display to have the date next to the post. Right now it's just a list of entries..

    The Latest Updates!

    * Aston Villa!
    * Bloodrock Festival
    * Merry Christmas!
    * 2010 Heaven & Hell Tourdates

    I'd like it to look like this..

    The Latest Updates!

    * Aston Villa! - Feb 26
    * Bloodrock Festival - Feb 1
    * Merry Christmas! - Dec 29
    * 2010 Heaven & Hell Tourdates - Dec 17

    Is there an existing plugin out there to do it? I looked at bunch of them, but none I looked at did this.

    Really? That doesn't appear to do anything. I just installed it, and I can't see anywhere that I'm supposed to change anything to display that.

    Additionally, the "home page" for that plugin is a circle it doesn't actually go anywhere.

    Edit: OK, I read the readme. That's not what I wanted - I wanted it to work at the plugin level w/o editing templates. That's part of the reason why I like plugins, so I don't have to mess with templates, and then change that work when there's a new version.

    Here's several:
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/query-posts/
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-loop/
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/category-posts/
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/list-category/
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bns-featured-category/

    Or consider downloading and installing Otto's PHP Code Widget, then put something like this code in one of those widgets:

      'post_type' => 'post',
      'post_status' => 'publish',
      'posts_per_page' => 4,
      'caller_get_posts'=> 1
    $my_query = null;
    $my_query = new WP_Query($args);
    if( $my_query->have_posts() ) {
      echo 'The Latest Updates';
      while ($my_query->have_posts()) : $my_query->the_post(); ?>
        <p><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to <?php the_title_attribute(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a> - <?php the_time('M j') ?></p>
    wp_reset_query(); // Restore global post data stomped by the_post().
