Support » Fixing WordPress » Long Chinese title not diaplyed properly

  • Hello,

i have a strange issue when using Chinese letters in post title. The Chinese title is: 与Hi-Target国际集团有限公司建立战略合作伙伴关系

    1) For some reason in wordpress backend i see this: https://i.stack.imgur.com/N3viF.png
Title is there, but WP backend says no title. When i make the title shorter, just like the second one, WP backend displays it properly.

    2) On frontend, i am sing usual loop and the_title() function. Title of the post is being displayed like this: https://i.stack.imgur.com/iPh3T.png

I tried to use get_the_title() instead, but i got the same result. At the same website, only on home page, i am using wp_get_recent_posts() and then $post[“post_title”] inside foreach. In that part post title displays properly: https://i.stack.imgur.com/DQZle.png

Does anybody have any idea why does WP backend have problems displaying this long Chinese title and why do frontend functions have the problem too?

    Thank you

  • Hi there, what version of WordPress are you using? I tried reproducing the issue using the latest WP and the title (与Hi-Target国际集团有限公司建立战略合作伙伴关系) and it looks all right both on the front end and in the backend.

The issue pictured here https://i.stack.imgur.com/iPh3T.png might be because the theme appends an ellipsis if the title is too long and the font does not support it because of encoding. Is Site Language in Dashboard > Settings > General setup correctly for your site?

    Hello,

    thank you for you reply.

Chinese language is added using WPML. Default language is English, Chinese is the second language, so general setup doesn’t affect this.

“the theme appends an ellipsis if the title is too long and the font does not support it because of encoding” – I also thought that this is the case, but on home page it doesn’t happen. This issue occurs only on blog page, where WP loads it using the default functions from the default theme. This is very strange.

    Any other ideas?

    Regards
