I’ve seen this a couple of times now. We set up a new site, install Wordfence and the login security options are missing from the menu. If you click on the button at the bottom of the admin.php?page=WordfenceOptions page you get sent to a “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.”.

This doesn’t happen all the time, but every now and then!

The only way to fix it, is to delete the plugin and reinstall.

Any ideas why this is happening?

    (It’s happening on Siteground)

Hi @delanthear, sorry to see you’re having intermittent problems!

That does seem quite odd. The message, “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page” is a WordPress default message when you don’t have the right capabilities to access the page. However, same capability usually controls displaying the menu item so what you’re describing seems consistent with this.

There’s a small chance it’s the theme or another plugin causing a conflict. Does it happen without reinstallation if you revert to a default theme and disable all plugins except for Wordfence? Does the problem come back at any point as you reenable your theme and plugins one-by-one? Another possibility could if you’re using a multisite that isn’t quite set up correctly, causing the wrong link(s) to be generated.

Let me know if that helps you narrow it down a little.

    Peter.

    Hi,

They are usually not multisite, running Astra with a child theme, no customisations (as this happens right at the start of the process and Wordfence is one of the first plugins to be enabled). The sites usually have Forminator, WP-SMTP, Yoast and Astra pro on at this point, but possibly not enabled yet.

If you delete Wordfence and reenable, it works fine. It’s only first install!
