    Just to make sure I understand: you log into sub.domain.com, and the dashboard is accessible, so you are logged in, but when you visit the front of the site, you are not logged in, but returning to the dashboard, you are logged in? correct?

    So maybe you are actually still logged in on the front of the site, but the admin toolbar is just not showing?

    This type of error can be related to a theme (or plugin), and often has to do with something related to the footer calls. The admin toolbar relies on this to display properly.

    This is probably NOT related multisite at all. I would try switching briefly to a different theme to see if that’s where the conflict/error is located.

    Hi, Bet!

    I thought about it being the theme, ao i switches to a clean 2016-Theme. This did not change a thing. I also deactivated all plugins to test, so that seems to be ruled out, too. But i’ll look intot he plugins thing, and come back to you asap.

    And yes, you are correct about you assuming the login/logout behaviour.

    Thanks so much!

    Don’t forget that in multisite you have plugins activated both in the site dashboard & at the network level. Test for both. 🙂

    G’Morning!

    I just tried to deactivate all Plugins while switching to twenty-sixteen as testing theme. It did not change a thing with the login behaviour. Is it possible that it is related to the .htaccess file?

    I’m pretty sure that you are NOT being logged off, you are just not seeing the admin toolbar on the front of the site. If it’s not related to a plugin or theme, you might try running a page through an online HTML validator like this one: https://validator.w3.org/

    You may have an unclosed div or something that is preventing the toolbar from displaying.

    hi, i have the same problem

    @bethannon1
    hi . thank you for helping.
    same problem here.
    as i am logged in as super admin, when i go to (test1.example.com/wp-admin)
    it will show me that i have to login, to access the dashboard.
    when i log in with the (test1.example.com) with my super admin username/pass. then if i go back to original site as (example.com/wp-admin) i have to log in again!
    it seems that i can only be logged in, in one site only!
    if i log in , in main domain. i will logged out from subdomains.
    if i log in subdomains, it will log me out from main domain , and other sub domains.
    is there a solution to this issue?

    @bethannon1
    by the way, this is my fresh install of wordpress super admin.
    i have installed latest wordpress version, theme 2016, no plugins
    thank you very much.
