Installed Restrict Content. Was able to restrict a page. But users can’t sign in. They get redirected to the WordPress sign-in page, but they get rejected when they sign in. They were able to sign in before installing Restrict Content. The page is set to public, the Restrict Content level is set to subscriber. Their membership level is set to subscriber (on the WordPress Users page — no other user management page seems to be available).

    Can you help?

(No link to site included because you have to be a member to see the problem.)

  • This plugin does not handle the registration or login process, sorry. It only handles hiding content to or from logged in / logged out users.

Okay, I understand that. But it has messed up the ability of users to log in who were able to do so before it was installed, and who are able to log in when I deactivate it. Have I done something wrong? Is there a setting I need to change?

There’s no setting in this plugin that could possibly cause that. Could you try deactivating all of your other plugins to see if one of them is causing it?

I deactivated all other plugins. It did not help.

Question: In the Restrict Access download, there is a set of php files in a folder named “includes.” They are “display-functions.php,” “feed-functions.php,” etc. When I installed into WordPress, I simply directed the plugin installer to the Restrict Access zip file I received when I downloaded it. Do I need to install these additional file separately, or something?

Also, I’m using the Harmony theme. I don’t know if that matters.

Okay, I figured out part of the problem. When users try to open a restricted page, the plugin is redirecting them to a login page on WordPress.com, not on the hosting service I’m using. I ported my website to my current hosting service from WordPress.com. I no longer needed it, so I deleted the WordPress.com site, but it didn’t fix the problem. I deleted and reinstalled the plug in, but that didn’t help, either. Now when users try to log in, they get a message saying that the WordPress.com site has been deleted.

    Any help would be appreciated.

That redirect isn’t coming from my plugin. Try deactivating all other plugins and see if that resolves the issue. If it does, reactivate your plugins one by one until you find the one causing the problem.

I never resolved this problem, but I did devise a work around that works fine.

For those who encounter a similar problem: The solution wasn’t to deactivate other plugins, that had no effect. The solution involved never allowing subscribers to go to content restricted by this plugin until after they had signed in. I set up a page to act as a portal to all restricted content. Users were directed to the correct login page. After logging in, I used another plugin to redirect them to the restricted content.

This works for my website because there are distinct public and private sides, and one portal can serve as access between them. For this purpose, the plugin is now doing exactly what I wanted it to.
