Midphase hosting upgraded to PHP 7.2
Errors:

cleared Firefox browser cache and cookies. No change to error.
removed plugins folder. No change to error.
Tried Microsoft Edge and Chrome browsers. No change to error.

Hmmm….

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

Also, your site shows that you are still on WordPress 4.0.24. Have you actually updated to the latest version of WordPress?

YOu may want to ask your host to roll you back to PHP version 5.6. That will probably let you login again. If so, then update everything — WordPress, themes, and plugins — and try 7.2 again. My bet is you have something so old it breaks with PHP 7.

I thought we were getting automatic updates. I downloaded WordPress 4.9.8 l which required an update to the sql database. This resolved the problem and we can now access the dashboard with PHP 7.2. Thanks for your fast responses.

Wordpress, with default settings, automatically updates minor versions (4.x.y to 4.x.y+1) but not major versions (4.x to 4.x+1).
