Locked out of WP and hitting "forget password" leads me in loops

Let me preface this by saying that I am not very technologically savvy (obviously). My computer automatically saves my passwords and so I somehow last track of what my password is for my wp. I changed it today, and when I went back in to log in, it says it is incorrect. I tried so many times that I have been repeatedly locked out of my account. when I hit “forgot password” I write my email/username in and it either says that my username is invalid or it will lead me to my wordpress (but still not logged in). Please please help! This is very important!
