• Hi, I have recently tried to login into my wordpress.com and I can’t seem to get in although I haven’t recently reset my password.
When I’m on my jetpack dashboard on the wp-admin, I can see my wordpress.com account both in the toolbar and sidebar if I click on my avatar, but as soon as I try to go to the settings, it sends me to wordpress.com to try and log in.

The only reason I have a wordpress.com account is for jetpack and now even if I wanted to upgrade, I can’t since I’m completely locked out.

I’ve tried both the “lost your password?” (with both email and username), and the “email me a login link” without success as I never receive the reset emails.
I’ve checked that the email in question is working and that eventual emails are not landing in the spam folder.

I feel completely at loss. I can still log in to my wp-admin using username and passwords for each of my websites, but can’t login using wordpress.com. I can’t even contact wordpress.com as I can’t login.

What are my ressources? In case I’ll never be able to recover my account, how do I disconnect it from my websites so that nobody can access them but me? Can I create a new wordpress user with my websites so that I can connect them with jetpack?

Thank you very much in advance.

  • Since it’s your WordPress.com account that you’re having a problem with, we really can’t help with here.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com

WordPress.com has complete documentation and support contacts at https://support.wordpress.com/

Well, I’m afraid that’s not an option since I can’t post to the forum or contact anyone there. And even when I try, then I’m told this is irrelevant since I’m a self-hosted wordpress.org

I want to upgrade my jetpack plan but can’t. This is my issue. I just don’t know what to do.

And even when I try, then I’m told this is irrelevant since I’m a self-hosted wordpress.org

Probably that’s because of how you phrased your question. Unfortunately, most people… including official corporate support staff… often don’t bother to read support requests in detail to see how best they can help. So if you rambled about a bit as you did here originally 🙂 , then I’m not surprised you were pushed back here.

But just think about this logically:

You said you’re locked out of and can’t login to your WordPress.com account. Who else can solve this problem for you other than WordPress.com?

You said you want to upgrade your JetPack plan. Who else can help you but JetPack (owned and operated by WordPress.com)?

If you want to recover your existing WordPress.com account…

    1) Forget about your self-hosted (WordPress.org) site now and go to https://wordpress.com/ and click on LOGIN at the top. If you can’t log in, this should convince you that it has nothing to do with your website but everything to do with WordPress.com

    2) Convinced now? Go here to begin your WordPress.com account recovery: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery . While completing the account revoery form, don’t mention a word about your self-hosted site. Focus 100% on the real issue: recovering your WordPress.com account.

    Hi George,

thank you for your kind answers! It’s just terribly frustrating, it now seems the issue might be with my host and more specifically with emails not pointing to the right IP address.

I hope you have a lovely day! And again thank you for your time 🙂

I was able to create a new login to post in the forums where I was told emails were being bounced back. The solution was closer to home than I’d thought.

    /Fanny
