Locked out of WordPress admin
-
I’m in DESPERATE need of help ASAP, if possible. I was trying to make a change to my style sheet when I was apparently locked out of WordPress. I believe I was trying to make a change in our Homepage editor (I was trying to comment out the “Read More” button on sliders) and when I hit Update File I got to a blank page that read “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /hermes/waloraweb059/b858/moo.annlahr/cc_site/wp-content/themes/WhiteNoise/options.php on line 106”
Now this is all I see when I try to log in to WordPress. Does anyone here have any clue what I might have done and how I might fix it? I need to solve this problem IMMEDIATELY as I have no access to my website. For the record, I am using a commercial theme (White Noise by Progression Studios), but the vendor’s forums are pretty quiet (they will not answer this question quickly enough) and I need to fix this AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. This is a client’s site and I need to make changes on a daily basis. If anyone has any idea what this issue is I’d appreciate any guidance whatsoever.

If it’s that one file and only that file you changed and if you have an unaltered copy of the
themes/WhiteNoise/options.php
file then try these steps.- Using FTP or whatever file management tools your host has provided you with navigate to the
/hermes/waloraweb059/b858/moo.annlahr/cc_site/wp-content/themes/WhiteNoise/
directory. - Once there locate and delete the current
options.php
file. Just delete that one file and nothing else. - Now upload the original unedited
options.php
file into that directory. - Try and re-login to your WordPress dashboard.
Which should work if that’s the file you were changing. If not then you may need to re-upload the whole theme via FTP.
Thanks so, so much for your help Jan (I really am freaking out here!). Just to clarify on that second item – should I DELETE the options.php file or rename it? I’m not sure I understand that part.
Ha! My bad, I copied the reply from an earlier reply. Fixed. 😉
If you have the original copy of
options.php
safe and sound then yes, delete the one on your web server and upload the unaltered one.Phew, that worked. Thank you so much for your help – you really are a life saver!
Glad to help. 😉
