Support » Plugin: All In One WP Security & Firewall » Locked out of admin account / can’t unlock

  • I keep receiving emails saying that my account has been locked due to brute force attempts. This morning I received such an email and clicked the link to unlock the account but I can’t login. I’m just getting the error message:

ERROR: Access from your IP address has been blocked for security reasons. Please contact the administrator.

I’m the admin of the site and also the developer who built it. I can’t see anything in your docs about bypassing this. What’s the procedure please?

Additionally how can I stop this from happening in the future. The message says my IP has been blocked but obviously I’m not brute forcing my own site.

    Kind regards
    Steve

    Hi, carry out the following.

Rename the plugin folder via FTP to something like all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall-temp. Then log into your website again. Rename the plugin folder back to its original name. Enable the plugin and go to Dashboard -> Locked IP Addresses and unlock your IP address.

If the above does not work make sure that you try again the steps above but this time do not restore the htaccess file settings.

The following features might cause the IP locking out you experienced.

    1) Did you enabled Login Whitelist feature under Brute Force.
    2) Did you enable Login Lockdown under User Login?

Let me know how you go.

    Regards

    Hi

Thanks for the advice. I’ll give that a try today and feedback if I have any issues.

    Thanks
    Steve
