I was recently locked out of WordPress, a problem that was miraculously solved (not sure what happened there). I was briefly faced with an wordpress.org online form asking me to provide proof that the website was indeed mine. I should have taken a screen shot but didn’t. It asked me things about various authentication codes that I should know that proved I owned the site. I didn’t have any of the information. In the unhappy event that this should happen again I would like to have the information at my fingertips. My question is ‘Where do I find it?’

It wasn’t a WordPress form. There’s no built in mechanism that will ask you to prove you own the site. The larger question would be; what’s asking you for that information?

Inspect and review the features of any security plugins you may be using to see if one of them may include the feature you were presented with. You might also ask your hosts support staff if they had temporarily implemented any extra security measures at the server level for any reason.
