I keep getting locked out when clicking various tabs in the WP site and get the following email:-

A host, 31.113.243.164(you can check the host at http://ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/31.113.243.164) has been locked out of the WordPress site at http://theonlinenetworkmarketingblog.com until Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 at 2:43:34 pm UTC due to too many attempts to open a file that does not exist. You may login to the site to manually release the lock if necessary.

I am a complete beginner to the world of WP but managed to find this site and the post about checking your table in your database. I found the table name in the list of tables but don’t know how to open the table to see if my Isp number is in there, if indeed that is what the problem is.

I am getting fed up of getting locked out of my own blog so have disabled plug in for now but would like to reactivate it. Any suggestions?

  • Under the DETECT tab in that first bit there … it talks about 404 error detections and such … make sure you have Block Repeat Offender UNCHECKED … you’re banning yourself with your own security rules… additionally turn that off 404 intrusion detection if whitelisting your own IP address isnt working … have to keep in mind that the IP address that you have is dynamically assigned by your ISP and change whenever… also install WordPress Firewall 2 and it will force all 404 errors to redirect to your homepage (if option is checked)… its better to have redirects instead of 404s…. hope this helped?

Here is a note of caution about http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-firewall-2/

This plugin hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.

Look for it at the top of the plugin’s page.
