# localhost refused to connect.

 * I’ve never connected WordPress through MAMP. My girlfriend is a developer also,
   and recently used my laptop to test a wordpress site locally using MAMP. Now,
   my website wont work. When I attempt to go to my domain [http://localhost:8888/taxjacket/](http://localhost:8888/taxjacket/)
   I get the message:
 * This site can’t be reached
 * localhost refused to connect.
 * I’m not sure what’s happening. When I go to localhost:8888 it gives me a list
   of the websites created on the laptop, and I can’t access any of the ones that
   weren’t using MAMP previously. I’ve gone through a few posts and haven’t seen
   a problem quite like mine.
 * Just for reference, I’ve already checked localhost:8888/readme.html and got the
   same message.

 * Try making sure your MAPM apache and mysql are running. You probably just have
   to start MAMP first.
 * I don’t use MAMP (I use XAMPP); but I know the XAMPP modules have to be started(
   in a little control panel) before the sites will load locally.
 * The MAMP program probably shuts down each time you turn off the laptop… and isn’t
   set to autostart (so it doesn’t get loaded until you do it manually).
