Support » Localhost Installs » localhost not charging after xampp installation

  • Everything was working fine but after following a Youtube tutorial to configure my localhost page and installing xampp I have no more access to my localhost/wp-admin or localhost. Error says that localhost connection was refused. How can I fix it to avoid starting from scratch and lose all my job? What should I cange to go back to where I was? I did a windows last recovery point request to go back but it didn´t solve this. Help much appreciated. thanks!

I read this twice, and if I understand correctly it seems you had WordPress working before you installed XAMPP, is that correct? If so, you would not normally have two web servers running at the same time. Than can cause some problems.

What web server were you using to run WordPress before you installed XAMPP?

You are right. I was using wordpress on my computer (no web host yet as I was learning how to use it before paying a host service) and everything was OK. Due to a tutorial and having no idea of what xampp was for (just followed the steps) I´ve installed it, activate apache and mysql as tutorial recommended and after that my page allocated on my localhost (PC) is not working anymore

XAMPP is a pre-packaged web server environment that can be installed primarily to run web applications in a local environment for development purposes.

If you already had WordPress successfully running locally, then installing XAMPP was not necessary and has resulted in a second web-server instance. That’s not always a good thing.

In a nutshell: Try uninstalling XAMPP and see if things go back to normal.

Yes, by installing XAMP, you created another “localhost” environment. How were you running WordPress before XAMP?
