Support » Localhost Installs » Localhost going to online version

  • Hi

    I’m a very inexperienced wordpress user so any help would be appreciated. I starting to build a site and want a local copy so I can edit.

    I have installed a local copy of my wordpress site but every time I access it, it goes back to the online version, these are the steps I have completed can anyone see if i’ve missed anything.

    – FTP transfer of online site and saved these inside my home folder… Local Website/wordpress_local.

    -Installed MAMP and have setup the Apache server to look at the above location.

    -Created a database locally in phpMyadmin called wordpress_local and have exported my online version from hostgator and imported tables into local copy.

    -Local copy of wp.config.php has these settings:
    // ** MySQL settings – You can get this info from your web host ** //
    /** The name of the database for WordPress */
    define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘wordpress_local’);

    /** MySQL database username */
    define(‘DB_USER’, ‘root’);

    /** MySQL database password */
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘root’);

    /** MySQL hostname */
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’);

    I can access a clean install of wordpress locally no probs I just having a drama trying to copy what I’ve done on the hosted version to be the same locally. Everytime I access localhost:8888 it takes me to my site but then as soon as I click on a page it just reverts to the online version.

  • You will have to replace your online URLs with localhost URLs either using find & replace in database or using WordPress Search & Replace plugin like this.
