I installed XAMPP. Verified localhost shows XAMPP page. Downloaded WordPress 6.0 for MAC from this site. Moved the download to ht docs in XAMPP files. Changed the name of it. Typed in localhost with the name I changed it to and received a Trojan error alert. I came out of it and didn’t click on anything but now I”m concerned was there a virus in the WP 6.0 for mac file I downloaded or what would cause this?

    Thanks in advance.

There’s no “WP 6.0 for Mac’ version. The current 6.0 version is not platform-specific. Are you 100% sure that you downloaded it from https://wordpress.org/download/ ?

About the trojan notices though. Sometimes there’s some false-positives in some systems, and you might have had that happen to you. It woudl be worth checking the file(s) that it says are infected and see if they contain anything nefarious.

Hi @catacaustic. Thank you for the quick response. Sorry, you are correct. The WordPress download was not platform-specific. The XAMPP install was. I made sure that I downloaded it from this site. https://wordpress.org/download/

When I typed in localhost with the name I changed the file to is when I received the trojan message alert. I came out of it and ran a virus scan and ran an additional scan on the download. No virus was shown with either.

Why did you change the name of the file? Or do you mean the directory that you un-zipped the WordPress files into?

Hae you followd the steps in How to install WordPress?

The directions I was following to install WordPress locally using xampp had mentioned changing the name of the downloaded file once copied into the xampp htdocs folder. I just accessed localhost with that file again and I have a Welcome to WordPress so it’s good now. Thanks for responding. I’m not sure why I got the message previously but I appreciate your assistance.
