local install of WordPress stopped working

I was working locally with no problem using MAMP. Yesterday I updated my Mac OS from 10.7.3 to 10.7.5. (I also deleted Safari but I’m not using it.) I was fine after I updated, though, but I don’t remember if I rebooted. Today, trying to access the ip address of the WordPress site won’t connect. If I type localhost:8888, I get my home page with no styling. If I try to log in, it says can’t connect. I removed the theme I was working on out of the themes folder but then localhost:8888 was just blank. The MAMP homepage comes up and I can view my database.

Any ideas?
