Live Writer posting does not work with my blog in a password protected folder

I have a blog in a password protected folder (wordpress 3.3.1, hosted via webservice provider). Publishing through my Ipad app works flawlessly (i.e. remote publishing is on).
However, I cannot get Live Writer to work. I tried the normal setup procedure but then Live Writer tells me that it cannot automatically detect the blog settings. It requests me to choose which blogtype I am using – I choose “WordPress” (although there is also the option “wordpress 2.2+”). I don’t know what to put in for the “remote posting address” – I guess it starts with my normal blog address but then I don’t know what to add. I also don’t know whether this will work in the end because I have nowhere entered the username and password for the protected folder in which the blog is placed.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
