• Hi All, curious if there was such a plugin for the following:

We run a newspaper website that’s running on another CMS, but we do have a daily blog-style “Update” that gets posted to every morning with local news and such. It gates hammered pretty hard between the hours of 8 and 10 a.m., and I’m curious if the MySQL database can take all the hits we get at once.

I was wondering if there was some sort of plugin that would backup the SQL database to a secondary one, so that if readers come to the site, run into problems with it not showing up because it’s overloaded, it will automatically redirect them to the mirrored one which possibly isn’t taking too hard a hit?

Or is this out of the realm of WordPress completely and need to be achieved some other way?

    Many thanks!

  • Mirroring of databases has always been the responsibility of the web site host anywhere I’ve worked or been associated with.

In my opinion, before I even considered mirroring any database to improve performance, I would first ensure that I had the very best web hosting I could find. For example, the Service I am currently on has eight Intel Quad Core processors which, workloads being equal, would perform better than most web hosts with three mirrored database servers.
