  • Resolved spiffyg

    I’ve recently taken over the back-end of a friend’s website and have been editing it all day but can’t for the life of me figure out why bullets aren’t showing up site-wide. I’ve scoured the CSS and can’t seem to figure it out.

    I’d really appreciate a helping hand!

  • Without a link to the site where this is occurring, no way to help other than to suggest using Firebug to look at what’s going on with the CSS code.

    Sorry, it’s

    and this is one of the pages with bullets not showing up

    Looks like it’s password protected?

    Ugh, sorry again, the website isn’t live yet.

    No problem – easy to forget when you are logged in. These forums really only support themes from this site, but I looked at your CSS and this is what you need to change:

    ul li {
        list-style: disc outside none;
        margin: 0 0 0 10px;
        padding: 0 0 0.5em;
        vertical-align: top;

    Change is the “list-style” line – see line 322 in normalize.css file. If you have custom CSS option, copy the above code there.

    So if I don’t have custom CSS, I’m out of luck?

    No, just go find it in the file or add it to the bottom of your style.css file. Or better yet, you can add custom CSS via a plugin – that way your changes won’t get erased when the theme is updated.

    Thank you so much!! It worked! 😀

    I’ve still got a lot of learning to do. So for future use, should I be asking questions elsewhere since my theme isn’t from this site?

    Yeah, unfortunately, like I said, these forums only support themes from the repository here:

    It doesn’t look like the theme you have is one of those — so hopefully the vendor/developer supports it.

    If it’s a general WP question, the codex has tons of good info:

    And WP core issues or questions are generally covered here too.

    Oooh, now I wish they would’ve done some research and chose a theme from here.

    Thank you so much for you help!

    One more question while I’m here. Most of the bullets are showing, but there are some that don’t appear on an event page. Have any idea what that could be?

    Well, it’s never too late to change themes – you’d have to do some work over again, but in the long run, you’d likely be better off.

    Which page is still bulletless? (LOL)

    This is true… I could… God… I’ll have to talk to discuss it with my friend who I’m doing it for.

    It’s this page:

    Looks like changing the margins to this:

    ul li {
        list-style: disc outside none;
        margin: 0 0 0 15px;
        padding: 0 0 0.5em;
        vertical-align: top;

    The 15 was a 10px – so part of the bullets are cut off. Hopefully that won’t make too much of a difference on the other pages(s).

    Now I see that you are in Sunnyvale?? Wow – I live in Santa Clara! How’s that for close – considering these forums are quite global. Very cool project your friend (and you?) has going too.

    Yeah, changing themes might not be that hard — as that’s a pretty basic theme you have. So not too much fussing around I would not think. And there really are a lot of terrific themes on this site. Many work automatically on phones and tablets too. Some have tons of built in options so customizing is really easy.

    You’re a miracle worker! I never would’ve thought to do that. Doesn’t seem to have any noticeable effect on the other pages either!

    I’m actually not. My friend whose company this is lives in Sunnyvale. I’m working remotely from around Los Angeles. But I’m trying to move up to the bay as soon as I can.

    Thanks, man! It’s her brain-child, but I’ve been helping and along for the ride the whole time. I like to think of myself as her right hand. haha.

    I’ve been browsing through some of the themes on here and they are actually a lot nicer looking than the current one. I’ll strongly suggest that she lets me change themes. 🙂
