I can definitely appreciate you wanting to get this fully functional with the core plugin first of all – and indeed there should be no problem here. Can we start with some basic troubleshooting and try to isolate the problem? If possible, please:
- Deactivate all plugins except for The Events Calendar
- Ensure The Events Calendar is up to date
- Switch to a default and unmodified theme such as Twenty Twelve (or Twenty Thirteen)
- Does the problem persist?
Assuming for the moment the problem does not persist, please then try:
- Reactivating each component one-at-a-time
- Check at each stage to see if the problem has returned
- If and when it does return, make a note and let us know!
