Support » Plugin: Antispam Bee » List of blocked comments

I have searched for this issue up and down the support forum but there doesn’t seem to have been an answer. Instead, the topics where the question was asked are closed for replies.

Therefore, I am trying again to clear this up by starting a new topic.

In the desktop widget I see a notice that X comments have been blocked, but the link in the widget takes me to the Antispam-Bee settings page. Where do I see the blocked comments?

I apologise if this is a dumb n00b question, but the plugin documentation doesn’t seem to address this either.

Thanks in advance for any pointers,
    Sascha

  • There is no list where you can see what was blocked.
Or I have not found it yet :-).

The support team (if one exists) doesn’t seem to come here often… 🙁

You can set this up that spam gets marked and not deleted:
    https://github.com/pluginkollektiv/antispam-bee/wiki/en-Documentation#mark-as-spam-do-not-delete

So every “blocked” comment is now in the comments list with status “spam”.

CSS Hack and Empty comment can be safely deleted most of the times:
    https://github.com/pluginkollektiv/antispam-bee/wiki/en-Documentation#delete-comments-by-spam-reasons

Does this help already help you?

    All the best,
    Torsten

    Hi Torsten,

well, thank you. I did select the checkbox described in the first documentation above and unchecked the one in the second.

However, that doesn’t solve the original problem. The widget on the Dashboard shows a number of X blocked comments (in my case 3) and the link only points to the Antispam-Bee settings page.

And if I go from the Dashboard to the comments section there are no comments at all, neither blocked, nor spam nor anything.

So both the information about the three blocked comments and the link are pointless.

    Cheers,
    Sascha

If you have used the above mentioned settings to delete some spam for specific reasons, this is just a caching issue.

    All the best,
    Torsten

Nice, that you marked this topic as RESOLVED. Except, it ISN’T.

I have no caching plugin in place. So where would I look for a caching issue?

If the link in the number of comments points to the settings page (/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=antispam_bee), how would this explain some cached data?

    Because ASB is using this:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_cache_get

I’m just trying to help you.

    All the best,

Thank you for trying to help. However, how do I actually solve this? Can I debug this somehow?

The status on the WP dashboard still says to this day that there are three blocked comments. Just like in the first screenshot above.

Could this be some kind of default string, which is shown when there are no comments at all?

The link for these allegedly blocked comments still points to the ASB settings page. So there hasn’t been any change for months. Any caching would have expired by now.

    Cheers

I have digged deeper and found it. I was totally wrong in my last postings.

If the Antispam plugin is configured to mark fraudulent comments (to not delete them), the total number of such entries is displayed on the dashboard in red within the tile “at a glance”. However, if the spam is immediately deleted by Antispam Bee (without saving it), this option displays on the dashboard an additional column with the sum of the total detected spam comments.

    See wiki: https://github.com/pluginkollektiv/antispam-bee/wiki/en-Documentation#spam-counter-on-the-dashboard

    I hope this helps!

    All the best,
    Torsten

    Hi Torsten,

OK, this seems reasonable. But I haven’t set ASB to automatically delete any comments.

Oh well, I guess I have to live with it and ignore it.

Perhaps the wording of that text should be adjusted in the “at a glance” box on the dashboard to reflect the actual status. Something like “{number} spam comments detected and deleted automatically” or something.

The way it is now, it’s misleading and confusing.

    Thanks and cheers,
    Sascha

You can disable this line in the settings if you don’t need it and it is just confusing for you.

I’ve opened a Github issue about the wording change.

    All the best,
    Torsten

Alrighty, thank you for the support.

I’ll look into the settings and try to turn it off.

    Cheers
