Support » Fixing WordPress » List excerpts from other pages

  • Hi everyone,

How do you go about listing parts from field on a page from other pages? I know this probably doesn’t make much sense but this link will demonstrate:

    http://www.swcarrey.co.uk/services

This is my own personal site built with Drupal. I have a content type called services which contains fields title, body, icon.

I then made another page (‘/services’) which lists pages with type = services. I can layout this page however I want.

My question is, in WordPress, would this sort of thing be handled by pages or posts? Not quite got my head around how to do this yet.

    Thanks for any input.

    Sam.

  • Partly a guess, but I think I would use Pages or a Custom Post type so I could assign a unique template to each page that needed a custom layout.

    Hi,

Thanks. I have done a lot of reading about the custom post types and I will need them.

I just didn’t know whether this sort of thing would be handled as:

Page 1 (site.com/services) – list all sub pages in a grid as excerpts
    – Page 1.1 (design)
    – Page 1.2 (CMS)
    – Page 1.3 (SEO)

    OR

Page 1 (site.com/services) – lists all sub posts in a grid as excerpts
    – Post 1.1 (design)
    – Post 1.2 (CMS)
    – Post 1.3 (SEO)

    If that makes sense.

    Sam.

you can implement it by created pages and select what you want to show by creating templates files.

Ok, thanks, I have found a few tutorials that demonstrate this.

    Sam.
