 * When I write a new page, wordpress places the link on the top, where it is all
but invisible. How do I prevent it from doing that?

 * Do you mean the “downloads” and “about” pages at the very very top?
 * This has to do with your theme. Another theme could show it on the sidebar.

 * You can try putting this in your sidebar code.
    ` <?php wp_list_pages('title_li
   =<h2>Pages</h2>' ); ?>`
