BuddyPress Activity Plus
[resolved] Links not working (22 posts)

My site is http://www.floridadiveconnection.com and I'm using WP 3.8. Toward the end of December suddenly I can't add links with BP Activity Plus. The other features work fine but when I add a link and click preview the little spinner just acts like it's working but nothing happens. I've deactivated it and reinstalled with no improvement. I'm using Nextgen gallery and see there have been issues in the past. Any ideas?

    Hi @fdcadmin,

    I hope you're well today! :)

Sorry you're experiencing some trouble with that. It sounds like a possible JavaScript or AJAX communication issue, which most likely would be due to a plugin or theme conflict.

Is there any chance you could quickly try using a default theme? And if it doesn't work with that, could you try deactivating all other plugins except BuddyPress and Activity Plus and see how it works then?

If that works, then you should be able to re-enable plugins one-by-one to find where the conflict's occurring.

Could you let us know how that works for you?

    Thanks!
    David

    Hi @ildexperience,

    Hope you're well today! :)

I'm not sure I understand. Could you elaborate?

Are you saying that you can post links but that those links don't show in searches?

    Thanks,
    David

Yes, you can add the shout links but after having written exclusive preview does not appear and there is the public

    Thanks

    Hi @ildexperience,

I've just tested that on a lab site and am able to post links.

Could you try switching to a default theme like Twenty Fourteen, then deactivating other plugins to see if there's a conflict there?

If so, we can have a look at that.

    Thanks,
    David

    I can't.
There are no conflicts, i have already tried.
The only questions at the time would only with BP Links.
    You Know it?
You prefer to open a trial community user so you can check yourself.
I need that every user has also a page as well as on the dashboard where you can enter you own link

    Hi @ildexperience,

Since you mentioned BP Links, is that the plugin you're referring to?
    http://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-links/

If so, I'm afraid you've posted in the wrong thread, this is for BP Activity Plus.

Are you experiencing this issue with Activity Plus?

    Cheers,
    David

    Good evening
You open a user tries to enter into the community and review?
So you can better understand my needs.
I serve all and 2 plugins and I am convinced they can coexist.
Maybe I made a mistake in the settings or something else.
Waiting for your kind feedback, thank you for the attention given to me and I greet you cordially.

    Hi @ildexperience,

Thanks for your reply. And yes, the two plugins should be able to co-exist just fine. It's just that there's no integration between them.

I'm not sure I understand your request though. It sounds like you're asking for how to integrate them?

If so, that's not possible "out of the box". You'd have to code a solution for that.

Is that what you're asking though?

    Cheers,
    David

I'm sorry for the delayed response. We did some tests as you recommended and the culprit is NextGen Gallery. I'm using Canvas- Buddypress. When I deactivate Nextgen your plugin works. I made a test post and the link posted just fine. I turned Nextgen back on and the problem came back. Any ideas?

    Hi @fdcadmin,

I hope you're doing great today! No worries about the delay, we're still here to help.

There indeed is an ongoing conflict with that that we're looking into. Could I ask for you to try the fix referenced in the following?

I'm sure this will all be sorted by our developers soon, but hopefully that'll help with it for now.

    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,
Thanks for the quick response. I did the code edit and all is well. Thanks again,

    Good morning
Meanwhile you find you the eventual conflict we could disable just only the links.
And not to see the symbol of the 2 rings I'm sorry but what can we do? Does not work

Bad news. Last night I edited the code per the instructions and it was working. Today it has stopped working again. I deactivated activity plus and reinstalled. Before I activated it again I edited the code per the instructions. It's still not working...

Hi @fdcadmin, thanks for trying that. Really odd that it worked then stopped. Did anything else change? Maybe another plugin was activated?

@ildexperience, that link I posted has a temporary solution, though I'm not so sure how well that would work given fdcadmin's report here.

We're looking into this right now though. Our developer should have an update along shortly.

Thanks for your patience with this.

    Cheers,
    David

Hi, there was a recent update to activity plus and I was hoping that would fix the problem but it didn't. I thought I'd try editing the code again as you suggested previously but with the new update it has changed and I can't find the line to change.

    Hi @fdcadmin,

While I realize there's been an ongoing conflict, I've been testing the combination locally and haven't been able to replicate thus far.

Would you mind my having a look onsite through an admin account? If so, you can send a message through here:
    http://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/

You can select "I have another question" and for the subject field, include "ATTN David" then including a link to this thread for reference along with the other details.

If not, could you let me know what version of NextGen Gallery you're using?

Looking forward to getting this sorted. :)

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi David,
For some unknown reason it has started working again after not working for several days. The only thing I've done that could have affected it was to install a plugin called Autoptimize. It did require me to clear my cache a couple times and I'm wondering if there was something left in the cache that long.

    Hi @fdcadmin,

Weird! Not sure what could have happened there but for it to work then suddenly not work could be explained by a cache issue.

Glad it's now working though. Is that without that code edit though?

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi David,
Thanks so much for your help. I love your plugin and use it all the time. With the latest update I could not find the line to do the code edit so the answer is no. It just started working on it's own unless the update kept my edit. Sorry to be so much trouble.

    Hi @fdcadmin,

The update should have included that fix so I believe that's what sorted it, probably the cache issue may have held it up a bit.

You're no trouble, just glad that's sorted though. :)

    Cheers,
    David
