Support » Plugin: Broken Link Checker » links misidentified as broken

  • Hi there,

I am using the Broken Link Checker plugin and it has found over 200 broken links, but upon further inspection, these links don’t really seem broken. For instance, the first broken link it finds is “” When I click on the link it is clearly not broken.

The status of the link is “Unknown Error” (this is the same for all the other links.

    Here are the other details:

Link last checked: June 14, 2017
    HTTP code: 0
    Response time: 0.000 seconds
    Final URL:
    Redirect count: 0
    Instance count: 1

This link has failed 1 time.
This link has been broken for 15 minutes.

Please help! I use this plugin on my other site and it seems to work well.

  • Me too. All the link to linkedin pages are marked as broken or 999 error, but they work.

I run check again, and I lost all the references!!

Same here. All links are showing “530 Unknown Error”.

I forgot: it happens after lastv update. WordPress 4.8, theme Quincy.

Resolved, for me, was not the plugin: I link the foto of linkedin profile, but it seems that linkedin changed its system of defining the name or position of the picture files.

Something is still not right with this plugin on my site. It finds over 250 broken links with status “unknown” and when I go through and check them individually, they work. I know there are some real broken links in this stack, but I won’t be able to find the real ones.

Can anyone help me on this? I don’t even know where to start. This plugin works fine on some of my other WordPress sites.

I have loved this plugin (Broken Link Checker) and when it works, it’s great, but recently it is now detecting Amazon links as broken. Like fraugefahr above stated I get an “UNKNOWN ERROR” and when I hit recheck I get a “200 OK” sign and then, I mark as not broken. I have thousands of Amazon Associate links on my website, and they all just keep coming back again and again. Can anyone help on this? What’s the problem?

It’s happening to me as well on three sites. No rhyme or reason to the types of links.

Obviously this plugin is not being supported, so I guess it’s time to deactivate it.

Aside from the lack of support and loss of accuracy…

I recommend that you remove this plugin from all of your sites, especially those who are on shared hosting plans, due to resource usage. I’ve removed this plugin from all my sites and moved to using Screaming Frog to check broken links. There are many sites/apps that you can use in replace of Screaming Frog.

My process is now manual, but I just build that in as a checklist item for my WordPress maintenance/optimization clients. In the future, finding something automated would be ideal. I’ve heard that ManageWP may be adding in this functionality.
