Reports from many readers of my site headforpoints.com say that – since an Adblock update last week – affiliate links are disappearing from my article text.

For eg, if I write “I visited the Hilton Bourmouth last week’, with ‘Hilton Bournemouth’ as a link, all the reader sees is “I visited the last week’.

Clearly Adblock can either now recognise TA link styles OR it goes off and looks up the source code before downloading the page. Can anything be done about this?

(Ironically there is some upside as I have a loyal readership and many are now whitelisting me in Adblock, but it causes real issues with Google-driven new visitors.)

  • Hi @rjburgess99,

Which adblocking tool is this? Would be great to see.

One option to try could be to disable the default CSS class output under Settings->Link Appearance:

Let me know how you go

    Hi Josh

This gets a bit odder. The issue is with Adblocker Ultimate, definitely in Chrome and with Win7 and Win10.

However …. I cannot replicate it.

I’ve also only had about 10 of my 15,000 daily readers flag it. Almost certainly many more are using Adblocker Ultimate and it isn’t causing them problems, and you clearly are not seeing feedback from anyone else.

Those who raised it have now whitelisted us. Let’s see if there is any more feedback. I will also do a trial with one of the people who has problems to remove the CSS styling.

    Thanks for the feedback

    Rob

Thanks heaps for the feedback Rob.

Keep me posted, I’ll do some testing on my end too.
