Just used Media Cleaner to get rid of old images. I enabled trash before deleting the files.

Media Cleaner deleted pretty much all the images I use on the mobile version of my site. They are mostly thumbnails I use to load videos. When I go in to restore them from the trash they restore but they wont reconnect. If I manually reconnect them in the WordPress backend they dont update. If I delete the modules and make a new one from scratch they still dont update.

The icon on the menu bar wont update either.

What do I do here? The images are restored, I’ve tried it manually, nothing is reconnecting..

    I’m using WP 5.8.2 and Divi 4.14.2

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi,

Media Cleaner deleted pretty much all the images I use on the mobile version of my site. They are mostly thumbnails I use to load videos.

How were used those images? Through which plugin or pagebuilder were they added? Are you using the Free or Pro version of the plugin, and did you check the plugin or pagebuilder used for those thumbnails is supported?

When I go in to restore them from the trash they restore but they wont reconnect. If I manually reconnect them in the WordPress backend they dont update. If I delete the modules and make a new one from scratch they still dont update.

I am not sure what you mean by reconnect. However, when you retrieved the images; are they back into the Media Library? If yes, that should be fine – maybe the issue you are actually having is caching. The broken version of your pages is still cached, and you need to reset your cache.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am not sure what the correct term is, by “reconnect” I mean I restored it, its in the media library, it should be connected again. But its not showing up. When I manually try deleting the module and make a new one its still not connecting. I dont have any caching plugins that I know of, how do I reset the cache?

    Thanks!

I’ve been on chat support with my provider for about an hour now trying to get my site fixed after I simply deleted some images with your plugin, they are telling me “I’m sorry and I have checked with the admin regarding to this, you need to fix the WordPress installation and you need to contact your website master or developer regarding to this.”

You need to restore your backup 🙂 It’s as simple as this. For what I can see, I have the feeling you are not totally at ease with everything; the hosting service support will never be able to help you, they can only help you about your hosting and maybe some PHP errors sometimes, but this is stricly about WordPress usage, all the plugins you have and everything. Unfortunately, if you don’t really know what’s going on, the best is to restore the backup (which is why it’s written everywhere in my plugin to prepare a backup, it’s a tool for advanced users, and to avoid issues and complications, backups are the only way).

It’s very difficult for me to tell you what happened; the plugin move the files temporarily, but if the items are retrieved, everything should be back to normal. If not, I am not sure why, your other plugins or pagebuilders might react in different way when things are deleted temporarily or restored; it’s impossible for me to know. Only a developer spending some time on your install could help you, indeed, that’s what I would say as well; but really, restoring the install to a former state would be much easier.

If your plugin is simply deleting images (or in this case just moving them to the trash) one should not have to rely on a backup to undo whatever damage your plugin did, regardless of what warning was given. The fact that you have to give that warning and are repeating it again now would indicate your plugin is not working as well as it should.

And I built this site from the ground up. I certainly know how to replace images, delete and create modules, and built a page from scratch. Your plugin did some deep damage and it simply wont update anymore.

Warnings are important 🙂 They are there for a reason: WordPress is not a monolithic solution, and it’s completely impossible to know what will happen exactly after a simple WP API function call. So when it’s about moving files to the trash, it’s even more extreme.

Yes, it works perfectly in most solutions. But it can’t possibility work in every solution, it’s simply not possible. You can try to prove me wrong, but that will take you a few hundred years.

The plugin just does exactly what it says it does. And I am doing my best every day to make it better.

I would love to help you; but really, not preparing a backup is a huge mistake. You shouldn’t start a process that does big changes on your install without a backup, never, ever. Otherwise you will have countless issues.

I noticed you are using DIVI. Are you using the Pro Version of Media Cleaner? Because, if not, you should also have seen a warning telling you that support for Divi is part of the Pro Version of Media Cleaner.

Maybe you didn’t really check any warnings 🙂

Stupidity at its finest. It is simple and common sense to backup before performing any modification to your website. On its plugin, there are multiple warnings that only blind person can miss those.

You are trying to blame developer for own stupidity. I’m totally on Jordy’s side. The media cleaner is genius creation that solves WordPress biggest flaw.
