Links and pages not opening

I just moved my wordpress from a subdirectory to the root in order to replace my old site that was not a wordpress site (got rid of the index.html file). I created the new website in the subdirectory. Then I moved all the files from the subdirectory to the root, updated the database to reflect all the moves, but none of the pages, other than the home page, are showing up. Get the 404 not found error.

My hunch is that there is something wrong with the permalinks; I can not find the .htaccess file; so I am trying to find what is missing.

I am using Yahoo webhosting and used Filezilla to move everything.
