and my blogs are:
eclectiqueeats.com – English
fr.eclectiqueeats.com – French
Thanks! I will look at the first one for sure. I want to translate on my own content and not let a program do it.
Hi eclectiqueeats, your web is fantastic and your food as well!
I have the same problem that you had and I want to know what was what you did. I don’t want a plugin to translate my web either. I have created a subdomain for the secondary language and I want to run this web but I don’t know how to do this. Do you mind shearing with me that information? Do you manage both sites with wordpress network or do you manage them separately?
Many thanks!
Yes, I had installed multilingual press but it didn’t work for me.
In the end, I just added a button to the menu that links the two websites to each other. Example: for the English domain website, I added the ”Français” button in the top-menu which directs readers to fr.eclectiqueeats.com, the French domain. And vice-versa for the French domain having an ”English” button.
It is very low-tech. Plus, it only redirects readers to the home page and not the actual page they were on in the other language (for example, if they are looking at a post, clicking the ”English” or ”Français” button won’t bring them directly to the same post in the other language.)
This is a work in progress and I do have a good programmer working a little bit on it every day. For the moment, yes I do manage both sites separately which works okay for now since the two blogs are mirrors of themselves in each language.
I hope this helps!
Thank you eclectiqueeats, I cannot run the network neither and I was thinking in coming back to the one page “low-tech” version as well.
Thanks for your support.
