Support » Everything else WordPress » Linking the first and last post with next/previous link

  • I’ve been tinkering around with using wordpress as a portfolio site. I would like the next/previous post links to link the first post to the last post and vice versa. Right now the “previous” link disappears on the first post and the “next” disappears on the last post. Does anyone know how to make the “next” link appear on the last post and link to the first post? (and vice versa with the first post). I don’t know much php, just enough to find lines of code and delete them 🙂 Also if anyone knows of a plug-in that does this that would be even better. I’ve looked all over but haven’t yet found a plug-in or forum topic that deals with this issue.

  • I don’t know if there’s an easy fix with the built in WordPress pagination because that’s designed and hardwired to simply make pages in either forwards or backwards order- not loop around.

However, there’s a plugin called Pagebar2 that we’ve talked about on the podcast before (it’s in the repository so just do a quick search) that includes, in addition to “prettier” and more functional pagination navigation (that’s a fun phrase), and includes First and Last post links no matter where you are. Give that a try, and let us know how it works out for ya!

Thanks! Sounds promising, I’ll check it out.
