# Linking in comments

 * Using veryplaintext2.0 theme, when a commenter posts a link, it shows up as text
   rather than as a hyperlink. I want the link to work as a link. How can this be
   forced to work without teaching the commenters html code. Why doesn’t WordPress
   do this automatically, like this [http://](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/linking-in-comments/?output_format=md)?
   Seems that being unable to recognize when something should be a link is a bit
   behind the times. Message boards do it automatically.

 * Spam can be controlled between Akismet and limiting the number of links per post.
   These tools have worked well so far.

 * As for your suggestions of several plugins that will do it, so far, after browsing
   the plugin lists, I have not been able to find one. If anyone else out there 
   can help with this, thanks in advance.
 * I have been trying for several weeks to get an answer, but the support threads
   seem to disappear into a black hole after the first 15 minutes and no one sees
   them.
 * That’s why I re-framed and reposted the question. Hopefully, it won’t be necessary
   to do again.
